John O’Brien Passes Away At Springfield, Mass.

John O’Brien, a brother of the late Michael O’Brien, Jr. of Waterman Hill, Canton, died Saturday at 9 a.m. at his home in Springfield, Mass, after several weeks of declining health from heart trouble. Funeral service was held Monday morning in Springfield, where burial also took place.

Mr. O’Brien was born in Norwood about eighty-five years ago, a son of Michael and Ellen Nagel O’Brien. When he was about twenty-three, he went to Springfield, where he had since resided, serving for nearly fifty years as a caretaker for large estates. He retired about fifteen years ago. His wife, who before marriage was Miss Julia O’Brien of Canton, died seven years ago.

Remaining are a daughter, Mrs. Millard Smith of Springfield, Mass., sister, Mrs. Patrick Hourihan, of North Lawrence, and brother, Dr. James O’Brien of Boston, Mass. A son, John, died in infancy. His niece, Mrs. Mary Foy, had kept the home with him for several years.

Mr. O’Brien’s nephew, Emmett O’Brien of Canton, who attended the funeral, returned this morning.
