NORWOOD--Helen Christine Pettys, 84, Norwood, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Dale Gutierrez, Hurleyville.

 Mrs. Pettys was a retired English teacher at Canton College of Technology.

 Born May 8, 1917, in Susquehanna, Pa., she was a daughter of Robert Burgess and Hazel Marion Hupman Lee.

 She was the widow of Alan Hempstead Stillman, who died March 17, 1973, and Galand W. Pettys, who died Jan. 31, 1999.

 Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Dale and Wayne Gutierrez, Hurleyville, and Nancy L. Southworth, Reno, Nev.; two sons and their wives, Alan Bruce and Janet Stillman, Yuma, Ariz., and Christopher L. and Shabyna Stillman, Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Robert Lee and Frederick Pierce, and a sister, Joan Amato, addresses unknown; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a nephew.

 A sister, Ruth Koban, died before her.

 A memorial service and burial in South Windsor Cemetery, Windsor, will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Woodbourne.

 Donations may be made to the Potsdam College Foundation in memory of Alan H. Stillman, at 44 Pierrepont Ave., Raymond Hall 6th Floor, Potsdam, N.Y. 13676.
