MASSENA--Arthur William Phelix Sr., 78, of 9784 Route 56, died Tuesday morning in Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since April 18, after a long illness.

Mr. Phelix owned and operated car dealerships in Norwood and Norfolk and owned a trailer park in Norfolk.; He once worked at Massena Auto and participated in the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway.

He was a member of Gerald R. Roy Amvets Post 4. He enjoyed camping and reading.

Born June 20, 1925, in Norfolk, son of Sydney and Mary Currier Phelix, he attended schools in Madrid. He served in the Army during World War II.

He married Agnes P. Ashley on March 27, 1946, in the Church of the Visitation, Norfolk, with the Rev. Francis J. Connors officiating. The couple lived between Norfolk and Norwood for several years. For the past 15 years, they traveled to Florida for the winter.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Arthur Jr., Massena, Ronald, Indiana, Paul, Norfolk, and Bernard, Virginia; four sisters, Jennie Hitsman, Madrid, Letha Makara, Stony Point, Agnes Phelix, Syracuse, and Elizabeth Price, Florida; a brother, Conrad, Florida, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A sister, Ruth Willard, and two brothers, Winifred and Franklin, died before him.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Donaldson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
