WEST STOCKHOLM--Mildred M. Powell, 88, Needham Road, Town of Stockholm, died Tuesday at her home.
Born Sept. 23, 1913, in Norwood, daughter of George and Lillian Mae Brown Sherman, she attended schools in Norwood and Parishville.
She married James Edward Powell, Sr. on Feb. 13, 1933, at St. Marys Church, Potsdam. He died in 1973.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker and a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Potsdam.
Surviving are a son, James E. Jr., Cheyenne, Who.; three daughters and two sons-in-law , Ida and Roderick Wood, Boiling Springs, N.C., and Helen Charleson and Evelyn and Mark Burkett, all of Potsdam; a sister, Mary Sherman, Star Lake; two brothers, James Sherman, Norwood, and Edward Sherman, Massena, 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Judy Sova, a son, Lawrence Powell, two sisters, Eleanor Zabrisky and Dorothy Lane, and two brothers, Charles and William Sherman, died before her.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Potsdam, with the Rev. Sean Pierce officiating. Spring burial will be in Sanfordville Cemetery. Arrangements are with Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam.
Calling hours will be Thursday and Friday at the home of her daughter, Helen Charleson, 238 Needham Road, town of Stockholm.
