Brasher Falls--Funeral services for Rita M. Rist, 69, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church in Brasher Falls. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Mrs. Rist died Monday (March 28, 2005) at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Stan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Ray Rose of Swanton, Vt., and Janet and Guy Griffin of Brasher Falls; two grandchildren, Casey Wilkins and Britney Wilkins, both of Brasher Falls; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Daisy Rist of Meredith, N.H.; one sister, Mrs. Felix (Nancy) Levison of Norwood; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Wilda Duegaw, in 2001, one son, Stanley D. Rist Jr., in 1959; two sisters, Joan Duegaw and Jean Phillips; and one brother, Robert Duegaw.
Mrs. Rist was born on Nov. 29, 1935 in Norwood, the daughter of the late Andrew and Wilda Despaw Duegaw. She graduated from Norwood-Norfolk High School in 1954.
She married Stanley D. Rist on May 19, 1956 in the Chapel at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif.
She had worked at the Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Company in Potsdam before devoting her time to her family and being nanny to many kids. She loved to cook, make wedding cakes, knit and crotchet.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Winthrop, and was the treasurer for the Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Memorial donations can be made to Hospice or the Brasher-Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department.
