Abraham Ruvalcaba

NORWOOD--A funeral with military honors for Staff Sgt. Abraham C. Ruvalcaba, 28, of 306 Murphy Road, will be a 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Waddington.

Mr. Ruvalcaba died Saturday of leukemia at Fletcher-Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

Calling hours will from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sgt. Ruvalcaba enlisted in the Army in November 1996. After training, he was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum as an infantry paratrooper, completing 302 jumps. He was then assigned to Fort Bragg, N.C., and then to England. He returned to the U.S. and became a recruiter, with duty in Malone for four years and then in Plattsburgh. He rejoined the 10th Mountain Division in March as an infantryman, assigned to Company A, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment.

Born March 16, 1978, in San Blas, Mexico, son of Alfonso and Emelia Durran Ruvalcaba, he was a graduate of Castle Park High School, San Diego, Calif. He married Barbara W. Ball on June 22, 2000, at the United Methodist Church, Potsdam. After their wedding, the couple lived at Fort Bragg.

He enjoyed participating in paint ball games, rappelling and hunting.

Surviving besides his wife and his mother, of San Blas, are two brothers, Alberto and Ernesto, and two sisters, Angelica and Julia Ruvalcaba, all of Tijuana, Mexico.
