NORWOOD--Mary Alice Sutter Ryan 69, died Thursday at st. Peter's Hospital, Albany, following a short illness.

Born in New York City, daughter of W. Francis and Mary Elizabeth Duffy Sutter,she graduated from Norwood High School and received her bachelor's degree from Plattsburgh State University College. She completed her education at New York University, Siena College and Russell Sage College, Troy.

She married John T. Ryan on Aug. 12, 1955, at St. Andrew's Church, with the Rev. Edward J. Ryan, brother of the bridegroom, and the Rev. Francis Maguire officiating.

Mrs. Ryan was a home economics teacher for 28 years, teaching at Adams Union Free School, Public School 19, Albany, Mohonesen High School, Rotterdam, the Indiana County School, Bloomington, Ind., and Guilderland High School, from which she retired in 1984.

Mrs. Ryan also was a rental consultant at Colonie East Apartments for seven years.

She was a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church in the town of Guilderland, and a member of its Christ Child Society and its Ladies Society. She was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Guilderland Garden Club.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Kevin J., Rotterdam; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Kathleen) Whimple, Schenectady; a sister, Sister Elizabeth T. Sutter, SSJ, Cohoes; two brothers, John F., Zolfo Springs, Fla., and Joseph G., Raymondville; a grandhild, and several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Madeleine Sophie Church. Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Calling hours will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont.

Donations may be made to the Christ Child Society or the St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Ave., Schenectady, N.Y. 12303.
