Nurses's Aide

NORWOOD--Elizabeth M. Shampine, 78, formerly of Mayfield Apartments, Potsdam, and Norwood, died Sunday at Community Nursing Home, Potsdam.

 Mrs. Shampine was a telephone operator with Norwood Telephone Co. and a nurse's aide at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, until her retirement in 1978, after 22 years.

 Born Oct. 23, 1922, in Potsdam, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Boyd Fawcett, she attended schools in Parishville and Potsdam. She married Allen P. Shampine on July 19, 1942, in New York City. He died before her.

 Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Janice) Valley, Potsdam, two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

 A son, Joseph, a granddaughter, eight brothers and five sisters died before her.

The funeral will be a 8 p.m. Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. William and Barbara Masters officiating. Spring burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Parishville.

 Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 Donations may be made to Community Nursing Home Air Conditioning Fund.
