NORWOOD--The funeral for Cecile O. Smith, 88, formerly of 1 Ridge Street, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Buck Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Sweeney, pastor of Knapps Station Community church, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Heuvelton.
Mrs. Smith died Thursday evening in Community Nursing Home, Potsdam, where she had resided since March 25, 1998.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith operated a boarding house for 45 years and also was a farmer.
She was a past 4-H leader and was active in the community, especially with children.
Born Sept. 26, 1912, in Hermon, she was a daughter of Gilbert and Lydia Carman Woodrow.
She married Cecil E. Smith on Oct. 31, 1931. He died Jan. 13, 1962.
Surviving are a son, Willard, Norwood; a daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Thelma) Bullock, Edwards; two brothers, Floyd Woodrow and Everett Woodrow, both of Hermon; five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A son, William, died Dec. 2, 1951. A brother, Forrest Woodrow, and a sister, Florence ?Woodrow, also died before her.
