Mrs. Esther Williams Ward, 62, died early Friday morning at her home on Prospect Street after an illness of six months. In September she had an operation in a Montreal hospital for a brain tumor. Since that time she had gradually failed until her death. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the home, the Rev. W. J. Hamilton of the Episcopal church officiating with burial in Bayside.
Mrs. Ward was born in Norwood, a daughter of the late Darwin Williams and Mrs. Byron Brown. She spent her early life there and later married David Weller who was employed by both papers in Potsdam for several years, the couple residing in Potsdam and Canton. Some time after Mr. Wellers death, she married Erwin P. Ward. Since the Potsdam hospital was established Mrs. Ward was employed there, most of the time for over seven years.
Mrs. Ward is survived by her husband, her mother and step-father, Mrs. And Mrs. Byron Brown; three sons, Earl and Rex Weller of Potsdam, Robert Weller, Malone; four daughters, Mrs. Iva Burgess, Hopkinton, Mrs. Esther Cecot and Mrs. Ruth Compo, both of Massena; and Mrs. Evelyn Sharlow of Potsdam; two half brothers, Guy Brown, Unionville, and William Brown, Potsdam and sixteen grandchildren.
