POTSDAM--Louis J. Wells, 66, Potsdam, died Thursday at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Mr. Wells was a stationary engineer in the heating plant at Potsdam State University College from Jan. 16, 1978, until retiring Sept. 26, 2001. Previously, he was a self-employed plumbing and heating contractor.

He was a member of Parishville United Methodist Church and a former member of Barney Pond Hunting Club.

Born Sept. 22, 1939, in Potsdam, he was a son of Judson and Elizabeth Caringi Wells.

He married Susan M. LaBarge on July 7, 1966, at Norwood Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank I. Smith officiating.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Jerry R., Union City, N.J.; a stepson, Harry Greene, San Antonio, Texas; a brother-in-law, Cloudioussa L. Thomas, Parishville, two grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A sister, Ilena M. Thomas, and an infant brother died before him.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon B. Sweeney officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to Potsdam Rescue Squad.
