NORWOOD--Clarence I. "Chic" Ashley, 66, of 49 Spring St., died Sunday in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where he had been admitted Tuesday.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Buck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Dike officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Contributions may be made to the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad, Norwood Unit.
Surviving are his wife, Ethyl M.; four sons, Robert D., Rockledge, Fla., Clarence Michael, VanEtten, Richard E., Syracuse, and Donald J., White Post, Va., and 11 grandchildren.
Born in Herkimer on April 29, 1926, a son of Harry H. and Ethel Rivenburgh Ashley, he attended Herkimer High School. He married Ethyl Marion Reynolds on July 31, 1943, at the chapel at Camp Stewart, Georgia, with the Rev. Ugie E. Price officiating.
Mr. Ashley served with the Army Medical Corps, during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was employed with Remington Rand Inc., Ilion, and later as a child care worker with George Junior Republic School, Freeville.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Oswegatchie, the American Legion and Ex-POW, Canton.
