NORWOOD--Funeral services for Clara Margaret Austin, 71, lifelong resident of Norwood were held at the Buck Funeral Home, Norwood, at 11 a.m. December 16, 1967 with the Rev. Harry Myers, pastor of the Norwood United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood, in the spring.
Miss Austin died at 5:30 on Thursday morning, Dec. 14, 1967, in the Massena Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient one day.
Surviving are Truman Austin, Watertown; Norman Austin, and Mrs. Isa Tromble, of Potsdam; Ethel Austin Crouch, White Plains; Leon Pringle, Norwood, all cousins as well as other cousins in New Hampshire. A brother, Almon H. Austin, died Jan. 26, 1965 at the Veterans Hospital in Sunmount.
Clara Margaret Austin was born in the Austin Ridge area of Norwood Dec. 24, 1895, a daughter of Henry and Emma Cannear Austin. She attended Norwood schools and was graduated from the Norwood High School in June 1916 and from the Potsdam Normal School in 1918.
She taught school for a number of years before entering the employment of Henry McNulty who operated a drugstore first on Mechanic St. and later on Main St. She worked for years for William L. Bassett, who purchased the McNulty store. Following Mr. Bassetts death, she was a clerk at the Norwood post office for 12 years until she retired in 1960.
Miss Austin was a member of the Norwood United Church of Christ and of the Womens Fellowship of the church.
