George H. Babcock

 

(October 16, 1870-December 20, 1942)

 

George H. Babcock, known all through this section as a result of his long years of service on what is now the St. Lawrence division of the New York Central, died Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jas. H. Bero in Howard St., Massena. He had retired in July 1941.

Mr. Babcock was born Oct. 16, 1870 in Massena, but most of his life had been passed in Norwood. He had been a railroad man 40 years. In the earlier portion of it, he was conductor of the local freight, then operated Norwood to DeKalb Junction, a run he had for a long period. Promoted to passenger conductor, he was on trains 7 and 8, Massena to Watertown for some years.

Survivors include beside Mrs. Bero, another daughter, Mrs. Ada Langdon, Newark, O., a brother John, Massena and a sister, Mrs. Jane Knapp, North Stockholm. Private funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon.

(Mr. Babcock is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood).
