John Grovener Bearden

 

(September 7, 1859-July 1, 1949)

 

John Grovener Bearden, 89, 9 Cottage St., died early Friday at the Potsdam Nursing Home on Market St., where he had been a patent for three years. He had been in failing health for several months.

Born in Norwood on Sept. 7, 1859, he was a son of Humphrey and Elizabeth Bearden. He married Miss Jennie Wake, Norwood in 1881 and she died in 1916. He later married Mrs. Nellie Snyder of Potsdam and the couple had since resided in Cottage st. until her death two years ago.

Mr. Bearden was for many years a fireman at the Unity Paper Mill in Depot st., and for twenty five years held a similar post at Clarkson College, retiring about three or four years ago.

The survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Blanche) McGill, and Mrs. Harrison (Edythe) Williams, both of Potsdam; a son, Glenn Bearden, also of Potsdam; two sisters, Mrs. Milton Seaver, Parishville, and Mrs. Bessie Ward, Utica; a brother, Hiram, Norwood, and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be held …. p.m. Sunday at the Bearden home in Cottage st. by Rev. Orion Hess, pastor of the Baptist church. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery, Norwood.
