William H. Bishop, 78, Former Resident, Dies

 

(Sept. 26, 1871-October 16, 1949)

 

William Henry Bishop, 78, a former resident of Potsdam, died Sunday morning in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown. He had been in failing health for several weeks, and had resided in Lacona for the past three years.

Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mina Bishop, a daughter, Mrs. David (Ora) Spory and a grandson, William Grant, all of Lacona.

Born in Raymondville, Sept. 26, 1871, Mr. Bishop was the son of Noble and Fanny Avery Bishop. He lived in Potsdam and Norwood and on Nov. 2, 1893 married the former Miss Mina Bannister of Norwood.

Four children were born to the couple. A daughter, Olive died at the age of nine years; a son, Otto, at the age of 2 and another daughter, Mrs. Orpha Grant of Norwood died at the age of 22.

Mr. Bishop was custodian at the Potsdam High school for over 15 years. For a time he played cornet with the Norwood Band, known throughout the state as an excellent musical organization.
