David J. Bronson

Longtime Truck Driver

WEST STOCKHOLM--David J. Bronson, 79, West Stockholm-Knapp Station Road, died Friday morning at his home.

Born May 24, 1921, in Norwood, son of Harrison and Mabell Fefee Bronson, he attended Stockholm rural schools and graduated from high school in 1938.

Mr. Bronson was a truck driver employed by Pahler Packing, Potsdam. During that time, he also raised cattle on farms in Heuvelton and West Stockholm.

A veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the Army on Aug. 27, 1942, and served until his discharge Jan. 16, 1946.

Following his discharge, he returned to the north country and was a truck driver for 34 years, first working for Alcoa, Massena, and Eastern Petroleum. Potsdam. He then was employed by Walsh Trucking, Massena, from 1950 until 1957, when he became employed by Deluxe Lines, Massena. He remained with the company until retiring when it went out of business in 1980.

He married Joan Winters on Oct. 12, 1954, in Russell Methodist Church. The couple had lived in West Stockholm for several years.

Mr. Bronson was a member of Teamsters Local 687 and the Potsdam American Legion.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, David Jr., Massena, William, Dover, N.H., Charles, Dallas, Texas, and Christopher, Buffalo; three daughters, Janis Bronson and Judy Bronson, both of Newark, N.J., and Cynthia Bronson, West Stockholm; two sisters, Marjorie White, Sanfordville, and Lena Gallagher, Potsdam; a brother, Loren "Bub," West Stockholm; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Mary Morrow and Thelmas Bronson; three brothers, Harry, Gilbert and Vincent, and a grandson died before him.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam, with the Rev. Debra Waldron officiating. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
