NORWOOD--Mildred Gibson, 75, Baldwin Acres, died Monday in Canton -Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Buck Funeral Home. Surviving are three son, Richard, Nashville, Tenn., Phillip, Norwood and Larry, Torrance, Calif.; a grandchild; and three sisters, Lodene Hathaway, Cobleskill, Rena Morgan, Norwood, and Betty Rourke, Madrid. A son, Gary, and two brothers, Alfred and Wilfred Brown, died before her. Born Nov. 11, 1919, in Waddington, a daughter of George and Clara Hough Brown, she married Harry P. Gibson on Sept. 16, 1939. He died Jan. 20, 1990. Mrs. Gibson was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.

A memorial service in celebration of the life of Millie (Brown) Gibson, 75, of Baldwin Acres, Norwood, who died Dec. 19, 1994, was held Dec. 31, 1994 in the First Congregational Church, Norwood, with the pastor, the Rev. David Van Epps officiating. Organist was Sharon Hicks. Following the prelude, the Greeting and Invocation was given by the Rev. Van Epps, followed with the Lords Prayer. There was unison reading of Psalm 23 and several other words of comfort from Scripture readings. Readers were Cheryl Doyle, Marcia Wing and Christine Woodward. Special music was a solo, "Thy Word" sung by Carol Rourke of Madrid, accompanied by the Rev. Robert Billings. Also, an Easter song, "When They Hammered the Nails" written by Mildred Gibsons son, Richard Gibson of Nashville, Tenn, in 1983, which was sung by the Rev. Robert Billings, pastor of the Norwood Free Methodist Church, accompanied by Mrs. Robert (Melanie) Billings. There was group singing of two hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "Softly and Tenderly" accompanied by the organist, Sharon Hicks. Several family members and friends shared memories of Millie. The meditation was given by the pastor, the Rev. David Van Epps, who closed with reading a poem which he wrote, entitled, "Leave Talking" and a prayer of Intercession and Thanksgiving. Following the service, all were invited to a reception in Centennial Hall of the Church given by members of the Womens Fellowship, where refreshments of assorted cookies, punch and coffee were served. Mildred Gibson was a member of the First Congregational Church of Norwood and the Womens Fellowship. She was a graduate of the former Norwood High School, class of 1938, where she was a member of the Seniors High School Girls singing group, "The Sextet". She was a homemaker. Her husband, Harry Gibson, died Jan. 20, 1990. For the past three years she has resided at Baldwin Acres, Norwood. Her three sons are Phillip of Norwood; Richard of Nashville, Tenn.; and Larry of Torrence, Calif. Richard Gibson is a singer in Nashville and he was unable to attend the Memorial Service as he recently had undergone open heart surgery. Larry Gibson of Torrence, Calif. was unable to be present due to distance wise. Millie Gibsons three sisters are Mrs. Lodine Hathaway of Cobleskill; Mrs. Rena Morgan who resides at Baldwin Acres, Norwood; and Mrs. Betty Rourke of Madrid. Arrangements were handled by Buck Funeral Home in Norwood. There was no funeral services or calling hours. Burial will be made in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. |
