POTSDAM--Dr. Dean A. Hart, 85, Leicester, formerly of Potsdam, died Sunday at Nicholas Noyes Hospital, Dansville. Dr. Hart was a dentist in Potsdam from 1939 until his retirement in 1985, except from 1942 to 1945, when he was an oral surgeon in the Army. He was chief oral surgeon at Moore General Hospital, Swannonoa, N.C., from 1943 to 1944 and was discharged with the rank of captain in 1945. Born Nov. 24, 1914, in Norwood, son of William B. and Elizabeth Munson Hart, he graduated from Norwood High School in 1933, St. Lawrence University, Canton, and graduated from Tufts University College of Dentistry, Medord, Mass. with a doctor of dental medicine degree in 1939. He married Hattibel Grow on Oct. 26, 1940, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Adams, with the Rev. Cecil Taylor officiating. The maggiage ended in divorce in 1978. He married Beverly Derrenbacher Stirling in July 1979. Dr. Hart enjoyed flying and had his private pilot's license with an instrument rating. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity, Potsdam Rotary Club, the boards of directors of Norwood Bank and St. Lawrence County Cancer Society, and the committee for developing Potsdam Airport. He was also a member of the St. Lawrence County Dental Society, New York State Dental Society, American Dental Society, Society of General Dentistry and Flying Dentists Association. Surviving besides his wife are two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Kirk Stirling, New York City, and Jeffrey and Angela Stirling, Portland, Ore., a niece and five nephews. A brother and two sisters died before him. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. July 28 at Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, Perry. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood. There are no calling hours.
