NORWOOD--Frank S. Jenkins, 91, of South Main Street, Norwood, a retired farmer, cattle dealer, and prominent church and civic leader, died at his home Monday evening.
He had been in failing health for several years, but was about his home as usual on Monday.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Buck Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Smith, pastor, Norwood Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening and Wednesday afternoon and evening. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7:30. The family requests that donations be made to the Norwood Methodist Church.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by: His wife, Mrs. Fannie D. Jenkins; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Laura) Roberts, Norwood, and a sister, Mrs. Carl (Irene) Alverson of Heuvelton.
A son, Lyle, died in 1926 at the age of 25.
He was born in DeKalb, May 3, 1876, a son of Thomas and Maria Stone Jenkins. He married Miss Fannie Dickinson Jan. 10, 1900, in Rensselaer Falls, and the couple lived in Rensselaer Falls. They moved to Norwood in 1906, and had since lived here.
Mr. Jenkins was president of the village of Norwood, and was a councilman for the town of Potsdam for 20 years. He was church school superintendent of Norwood Methodist church for 40 years.
He was a charter member and first president of the Norwood Kiwanis club, and served as lieutenant governor of the northern division of the New York district of Kiwanis.
He was a past master of What Cheer lodge, F. & A.M., a member of St. Lawrence Scottish Rite lodge, Syracuse consistory, and a member of Media temple, Watertown. He was a member and past patron of Lyra chapter, O.E.S.
He received his 60-year Masonic membership pin in April, 1963.
