Fraternity House Cook

POTSDAM--Virginia Loomis, 86, Mayfield Apartments, died Tuesday evening in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she had been a patient since Monday.

Mrs. Loomis worked as a cook all her life. She cooked at many Potsdam-area restaurants until becoming the cook at Triangle Fraternity House, also known as Tau Delta Kappa. She remained there for 18 years until retiring at age 62.

Born Feb. 18, 1915, in Canton, daughter of Arthur and Minnie Meacham Cobane, she attended Canton rural schools.

She married James W. Woods in 1933. The couple lived in Potsdam for a couple of years until the marriage ended in divorce. A marriage to Dolf Trimm also ended in divorce. She married Maurice Snow Loomis on April 10, 1944, in Potsdam. The couple lived in Potsdam. Mr. Loomis died Jan. 10, 1991.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Maurice Joe and Veronica, Potsdam; two daughters, Phyllis and Richard Lawrence, Texas, and Ruth and Bing Huckle, Hannawa Falls; a sister, Betty Trimm, Sissonville; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Naomi Carolyn Sickles; a sister, Mary Conklin, and seven brothers, Forrest, Glen, Louis, Bernard, Paul, Orvil and Vernil Cobane, died before her.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Garner Funeral Home with the Rev. Sean Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.
