MADRID--George Michael Mattice, 17, of 83 Pearson Road, died Monday. The death has been ruled a suicide.

Mr. Mattice died of strangulation due to hanging, St. Lawrence County Coroner Russell B. Lawrence, Canton, ruled following discovery of his body Monday afternoon in a shed at the Delbert Anson home, 250 Brady Road.

Mr. Mattice, a former Madrid-Waddington Central School student, is believed to have hanged himself between noon and 1 p.m. Monday, the sheriff's department said. The death remains under investigation.

Born March 12, 1983, in Ogdensburg, son of George L. and Betty L. Goolden Mattice, he was a carpenter for Sturdy Built Construction Co., Pennsylvania.

Surviving besides his parents are a brother, Robert V., at home; two sisters and their husbands, Brenda and Alan Rexford, Canton, and Kimberlee and David Odendahl, Waddington, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Buck Funeral Home, Norwood, with the Rev. Eunice Taber, pastor of the United Church of Madrid, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
