William J. McQuade

NORFOLK--William J. McQuade, 83, of 137 River Road, died Monday morning at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

Mr. McQuade was a power assistant controller at Aluminum Company of America, Massena, for 31 years, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of Massena Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norfolk American Legion and Norwood Masonic Lodge.

Born Oct. 9, 1919, in Norfolk, son of Allen and Hattie Clark McQuade, he served in the Army from 1939 to 1941, re-enlisted in 1942 and served until 1945, receiving a Purple Heart.

He married Lydia R. Beamis on May 21, 1941, in the town of Brasher. She died Feb. 13, 1999.

Surviving are Wayne Blanchard, Norfolk, whom he raised as a son, and Wayne’s wife, Emma, and their three children and three grandchildren.

A brother, Alfred, and two sisters, Vivian Kirsh and Maxine Serio, died before him.

A graveside service in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood, will be at the family’s convenience. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Donations may be made to Norfolk Rescue Squad or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
