VERNON ORTON DEAD, AGED 67

 

FORMER NORWOOD RESIENT STRICKEN AT PORT ONTARIO --RITES FRIDAY

 

April 20, 1893--July 5, 1960)

 

Norwood, July 6--Vernon M. Orton, 67, operator of a motel and service station at Port Ontario, and former resident of Norwood, died Tuesday at 1 p.m. of a heart attack at his home in Port Ontario.

The funeral will be friday at 2 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home here, with Rev. Frank Smith, pastor of the Norwood Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

A Masonic service will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight and Thursday afternoon and evening.

Mr. Orton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Warner Orton; a son, Dolyn, Massena, by a previous marriage; three grandchildren, and a brother, Joel, Winthrop.

He was born April 20, 1893, in North Bangor, a son of Melvin and Hattie French Orton.

On Sept. 23, 1943, he married Elsie Warner. The couple lived at Massena until twelve years ago, when they moved to Norwood. While in Norwood, Mr. Orton was a salesman at Montgomery Ward and company, Potsdam. Mr. and Mrs. Orton moved to their present home in 1954.

Mr. Orton was a member of What Cheer Lodge, F. & A. B., Norwood, and the French Lake Outing club, South Colton.
