Railroad Worker
(April 22, 1941-January 6, 2002)
RAYMONDVILLE--Wallace E. Purves, 60, of 36 Woodland Drive, died Sunday morning at his home. Mr. Purves was employed by railroad companies for 38 years, retiring from Conrail in July 1998. Born April 22, 1941, in Bay Shore, L.I., son of Fred and Myrtle Christy Purves, he married Joan Pirsuk on Nov. 18, 1964. The marriage ended in divorce. He married Mary Jane Murray on April 6, 1974. He was a 28-year member of Norwood Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Robert, Port Charlotte, Fla., and Derrick, Cortland; a daughter, Donna, at home, and two grandchildren. A brother, Michael, died before him. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Buck Funeral Home, Norwood. Burial will be in riverside Cemetery, Norwood. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
