Army veteran

POTSDAM--Guy E. Reed, 72, Potsdam, died Sunday at his home, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
Mr. Reed served with the Army as a heavy equipment operator and was employed with Elliots Hardwoods, Norfolk Paper Mill and Aluminum Company of America.
Born Aug. 29, 1932, in Parishville, a son of Guy E. and Mayfred Randall Reed, he attended schools in Parishville and married Marie Ramsey on Sept. 26, 1964, in DeKalb Junction.
He was a member of Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion Post and enjoyed making maple syrup, hunting fishing and being a volunteer fireman.
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Wendy Rybert, serving with the military in California, Betty OBrien and Peggy Smith, both of Potsdam, and Amy Sharlow, Canton; two brothers, Gerald, Norwood, and William, Norfolk; three sisters, Helen Butchino, Potsdam, Altha Sawyer, Norwood, and Sally Kelly, Parishville; five grandchildren and a great-grandson.
His parents, a brother, Lloyd, and a sister, Marian Newtown, died before him.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Garner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department.
