MADRID--Donald W. Shepard Sr., 80, formerly of Madrid, died Thursday at United Helpers Nursing Home Ogdensburg.
Mr. Shepard was a self-employed paving contractor for more than 30 years.
Born Sept. 17, 1925, in Norwood, son of Francis and Florence LaComb Shepard, he served in the Army during World War II.
He married Irene Barkley. She died Nov. 13, 1989.
He was a member of the Potsdam Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald, Norfolk, and Danny and Duane and Lene, all of Norwood; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra I. Shepard and Dianne and David Liebfred, all of Norwood; a stepson, Dale Luther, Rochester; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Donna and Sherwood White and Doreen and Larry Pryce, all of Madrid; two brothers, John Norfolk, and Patrick, Massena; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley and Richard Liebfred, Indiana, Sharon Shepard, Ohio, and Gertrude and Gordon Earl, Parishville; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral with military honors will be a 11 a.m. Saturday at Buck Funeral Home, Norwood, with the Rev. Brendon J. Hardy, pastor of Norfolk Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
