Chester C. Simonds

(December 22, 1830-February 4, 1910)

Chester C. Simonds was born Dec. 22, 1830, and died at his home in Eben, N.Y. on Friday, Feby. 4, 1910, of a complication of troubles aggravated by advanced years.

He was for many years a resident of Norwood and has been in the saw mill business nearly all his life. He came into possession of the property near Eben station, on which the Steam Mill is located, about 55 years ago, and has since that time conducted a custom saw mill for the accommodation of the people of that section.

Mr. Simonds was united in marriage with Martha L. Braddish of Norwood in 1852, she having passed to the higher life about ten years ago.

Mr. Simonds was a quiet, unostentatious man who had well earned and enjoyed the respect and confidence of all with whom he came in contact, and as a first-class workman and millwright had a large acquaintance in this section.

He is survived by two sons, Arthur M., who lives at the old home, and Romaine H. Simonds of this village.

Funeral services were held at the home on Monday, Feby. 7, Rev. Jabez Stallwood of the M. E. Church of Potsdam, officiating, with interment at Norwood.
