Doris E. Speer

Office Supervisor

NORWOOD--The funeral for Doris E. Speer, 92, formerly of Norwood, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Buck Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Harris officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Speer died Friday morning at Community Nursing Home, Potsdam.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was business office supervisor at Potsdam Hospital until her retirement in 1974.

Born Dec. 15, 1906, in Hermon, daughter of Willis and Stella Smith Wells, she married Walter Speer on June 30, 1924. Mr. Speer died Sept. 6, 1965.

She was a member of Lyra Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Donald, Massena; three daughters, Edward (Janet) Thornton, Hannawa Falls, Mrs. Nicholas (Elizabeth) Orologio, Norwood, and Mary Jane Logan, Brasher Falls; a sister, Mrs. Ernest (Lucille) Hunkins, Gouverneur; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Three brother, John, Willis Jr. and Melvin Wells and four sisters, Kathryn Swaner, Lottie Mahoney, Mildred Larabee and Alma McCarthy, died before her.

Donations may be made to Community Nursing Home, Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley or the United Methodist Church.
