Retired Laborer
(November 8, 1925--October 27, 1998)
NORWOOD--Joseph Vari, 72, of 8 Pine Street, died Tuesday evening in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam. Mr. Vari was a laborer for the town of Potsdam until his retirement in 1988. Born November 8, 1925, in Norfolk, son of Steven and Theresa Swartz Vari, he married Jean F. Ashley on Dec. 3, 1959. She died April 15, 1997. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Teamsters Union 687, Potsdam. Surviving are three sons, Joseph Jr., Germany, John, Norwood, and Vincent, Massena; three daughters, Mrs. Lee (Peggy) Cooley, Sanfordville, Mrs. Daniel (Tammy) Lashway, Star Lake, and Mrs. Rick (Paula) Morgan, Norwood; three brothers, Ellis, Niagara Falls, Alex, Norfolk, and Louis, Massena; two sisters, Helen Santimaw, Massena, and Julia Guyette, Niagara Falls; 12 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Linda Harris officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Buck Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
