Carl B. Weaver

Construction worker

POTSDAM--Carl B. Weaver, 86, Potsdam, died Sunday in the emergency room at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Mr. Weaver served in the Army from July 25, 1943, to Jan. 19, 1946, as a cook and medic and worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway project at Massena. He was employed by Potsdam Feed and Coal and was a construction worker until his retirement. After retirement, he was a driver for Meals on Wheels and was a janitor at Building Blocks Day Care Center.

Born May 14, 1917, in Lisbon, son of Grant and Edna Wynne Weaver, he attended schools in Parishville. He married Regina Allen on Aug. 10, 1947, at the United Methodist Church.

He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed playing bingo. He recently received a conspicuous service award from Assemblywoman Deirdre K. Scozzafava.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons and their wives, Arthur B. and Carol, Newfield, and Douglas J. and Bonnie, Potsdam; five daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Al Scheuplein and Sandy and Richard LaPage, all of Hannawa Falls, Sue and David LaVean and Shirley and Tony Weller, all of Potsdam, and Rod and Lisa Pickering, South Burlington, Vt.; a daughter-in-law, Judy Weaver, Norwood; three brothers, Bernard and Alfred, both of Massena, and Frederick, Potsdam; two sisters, Helen Cobane, Oswego, and Beverly Stone, Cortland; 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Carl B. Jr., died July 25, 1996. Two brothers, Leon and Edward, and three sisters, Ethel Washburn, Kate Jessmer and Alice Mack, died before him.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Garner Funeral Home with the Rev. W. Russell Clark officiating. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
