Raised tropical birds

NORWOOD--William J. Woodward, 81, of 232 Lakeshore Drive, died Monday morning in United Helpers Cedars Nursing Home, Ogdensburg.

Mr. Woodward operated several businesses including Bill’s Mobil, Potsdam, Bill’s Bottled Gas and the Tropical Fish House and was a pet groomer. After retiring, he raised tropical birds.

Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Colton, he was a son of Albert and Olive LaTrace Woodward.

He married Helen Kristyak on May 28, 1948.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, William, Norfolk, and Gary, Norwood; a daughter, Irene Ober, Norwood, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and two sisters died before him, Albert, Arthur and Robert Woodward, Irene Martin and Iola M. McEwen, who died Friday.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Brian T. Kellington, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

There are no calling hours, Arrangements are with Buck Funeral Home.

Donations and flowers may be sent to the residents and staff at United Helpers Cedars Nursing Home, Route 37, Ogdensburg.
